The employees, teachers, and pensioners of the Tamil Nadu government have reason to rejoice as the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced a 4% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA), which will be applicable retrospectively from the beginning of this fiscal year. This hike is expected to benefit a whopping 16 lakh employees and will result in an additional expenditure of Rs 2,366.82 crore for the government. The government has made it clear that it is committed to fulfilling its promises to the employees despite the financial challenges faced by the state due to the pandemic-induced revenue dip and the economic crisis inherited from the previous government. In line with the central government’s decision, the DA for government staff will be raised from 38% to 42%. This news brings a ray of hope to the employees during these challenging times.
